About us

Skanska is traditionally one of the leading developers in Europe and in the Czech Republic. In Prague alone, the company has built over 8,000 new homes for nearly 21,000 people.

Since we realize that buying a home is one of the major life decisions, each detail of our projects is based in a deep knowledge of our clients’ lifestyles and their accumulated experience. To the same extent, we care about the environment and our corporate social responsibility, and we make sure that all our projects are seamlessly integrated with their environment.

History of Skanska

AB Skanska Cementgjuteriet, as the company was originally called, was founded in 1887 by the engineer Rudolf Fredrik Berg as a factory manufacturing concrete decoration products. It quickly diversified into the production of raw materials for the construction industry (especially civil engineering, public works and highway construction), and later went into construction itself. The company secured its first international contract already in 1897 in the United Kingdom. It gradually expanded its operations in the continental Europe and in the United States. Today, Skanska is one of the global leaders in construction and development. Skanska has a presence in 11 countries and employs close to 57,000 people.

In 2000, Skanska AB entered the Czech market with the acquisition of a controlling interest in IPS, a.s. (Inženýrské a průmyslové stavby – formerly Zemstav). As a construction and development leader, Skanska is active in four industry segments in the Czech Republic: construction (civil engineering and highway construction), residential development,  commercial development, and infrastructure development.
