Emil Kolben Columns

Emil Kolben's distinctive columns are part of the public spaces. These modern sculptures, designed by LAND05 studio in collaboration with artist Matěj Hájek, will be part of the nature trail and provide a reference to the industrial past of the site.

The first of the four Emil Kolben columns commemorating the legacy of the famous entrepreneur and innovator is the sculpture named Rezistor. The artists here deliberately used an old marking for the resistor symbol, which is still used in electrical markings in the United States. It thus refers to a turning point in Emil Kolben's career overseas.

Sculpture can carry a function. It can be a game element, it can be a lookout tower. A pavilion or gazebo can be a sculpture. In any case, they are part of a specific environment, a space that they imprint with uniqueness and identity.

Alfred Residential Building

The inspiration for the name of the new house came from Kolben's younger brother Alfred, also an engineer and inventor, who, according to surviving information, was the closest of the siblings to Emil.

In the context of the new urban district, it is a key building that will become the centrepiece of the project. The west side reveals a quiet courtyard full of greenery with benches for relaxation and work, while the east side will create a beautiful tree-lined promenade that will provide an ideal space for daily walks.

Completed residential buildings

In the first phase of the Emil Kolben district, which is situated near Zahrádky Park, there are three more intimate buildings, Lilly, Greta and Malvína, named after the wife and daughters of the great industrialist. The smaller northern seven-storey building is named after Kolben's grandson Jindřich. The neighbouring fourteen-storey L-shaped building is named Hanus after Kolben's son.

The Emil Kolben Quarter gives a new meaning to the already extinct but quite magnificent industrial past of this part of Vysočany. The modern architecture here builds on the aesthetics of the other buildings already standing on the site or yet to be built in the next phases of the project. In addition to quality housing, the level of which is verified by independent BREEAM certification, we are creating a public space that responds to the current and future needs of the city people.
